The European eventing season comes to a close this weekend at Les Etoiles de Pau (24-28 October) – and you can watch all the action LIVE on Horse & Country.
Full of challenges
Known simply as ‘Pau’ (pronounced ‘po’ as in ‘go’), the event has been running since 1991 and in 2007 it gained four-star status, making it the only three-day event in France.
Despite its location on the edge of the Pyrenees, the terrain is fairly flat. However, Olympic course-designer Pierre Michelet has cleverly designed a cross-country track that is still full of challenges for horse and rider.
Last year Gwendolen Fer became the first French female rider to win Pau, with Sarah Bullimore pulling off the best performanceof her career, coming second. So who will take the title in 2018?
Top British riders
The last British champion was William Fox-Pitt who won Pau in 2013 and 2011. William is competing this year on Little Fire, alongside an bevvy of top British riders.
Names to look out for include World Champion Ros Canter (Zensher), Gemma Tattersall (Pamero and Santiago Bay), Oliver Townend (Cillnabradden Evo) and Izzy Taylor (Be Touchable, Frog Rock and Call Me Maggie May).
